What alcantara is and why it's particular
Alcantara is an ultra-fine synthetic microfibre, developed in Italy, that mimics suede leather with superior durability. Used on sports seats, headliners, steering wheels, gear levers and dashboard inserts in premium cars. Beautiful but sensitive: wrong products damage it permanently.
What damages alcantara
- Aggressive solvents (alcohol, petrol, thinner)
- Excessive wetting
- Stiff brushes
- Leather products with silicone
- Excessive heat (hairdryer)
- Irregular rubbing
Suitable products
- Neutral water-based detergent for synthetic microfibres
- Dry cleaner for stubborn stains
- Soft synthetic-bristle brush
- Clean dry microfibres

Routine cleaning procedure
- Vacuum thoroughly
- Delicate brush in all directions
- Vacuum again
- Finish with lightly damp microfibre (no products)
Stain procedure
- Dab immediately with absorbent paper (never rub)
- Spray dry cleaner directly on stain
- Let act 1-2 minutes
- Brush gently from outside to centre
- Vacuum product and dissolved stain
- Repeat if needed
- Even out fabric grain with dry microfibre
Periodic maintenance
- Weekly vacuuming
- Soft brushing every 2 weeks
- Deep cleaning every 2-3 months
