How to Sanitise Your Car Air Conditioner: Complete A/C Cleaning Guide
The A/C evaporator coils work in a warm, humid environment: ideal conditions for bacteria, mould and fungi. The unpleasant smell from the vents is just the most obvious symptom of a real hygiene problem.
When to sanitise
- At least once a year, ideally at the beginning of spring before switching the A/C on for summer
- Every time you smell mould or damp from the vents
- If the A/C has not been used for the entire winter season
- In the presence of allergies or irritation when the A/C is turned on
MA-FRA products
- MA-FRA Odorbact Out — specific nebuliser for the A/C circuit; certified antibacterial action that eliminates mould and bad odours at the root, does not mask them; fresh fragrance
- MA-FRA Odorbact Out Talc — same formula with talcum fragrance, more neutral; ideal for company or shared cars
Procedure: 10 minutes
- Start the engine and set the A/C to maximum, external air mode (no recirculation) — essential to circulate the product throughout the entire system
- Place the canister on the passenger footwell mat, remove the cap
- Close doors and windows; move away from the car for 10 minutes
- Open and ventilate for 2–3 minutes with the A/C still running
- Switch off and air further: the treatment is complete
Why do it regularly
An A/C system with mould and bacteria blows contaminated air into the cabin for hours. A clean system works better, consumes less and protects the health of the occupants. A small annual preventive gesture with a real daily impact.
