Pre-wash with foam gun: the foam technique to wash your car scratch-free

The foam pre-wash (in English snow foam) is the technique that professional detailers use to remove coarse dirt from the bodywork before contact with mitt or sponge. Result: zero swirl marks (spider web scratches) and safe washing even on delicate paints.

Why pre-wash changes everything

When you pass the mitt on a dirty car, abrasive particles of sand, dust and gravel drag on the paint creating micro-scratches invisible to the naked eye but visible in the sun. Pre-wash removes these particles with zero contact, leaving only "soft" dirt to be removed with the mitt.

Difference between foam cannon and foam gun

• Foam Cannon (pressure washer) – produces dense foam at high pressure, ideal for detailers and workshops. Requires a pressure washer.
• Foam Gun (with hose) – connects to the normal home water hose. Less dense foam but sufficient for home use.

What you need for professional pre-wash

• Pressure washer (any consumer model from 1,500W upwards is fine)
• MA-FRA Foam Gun Prewash 5000ml – concentrated foam detergent
• Foam cannon or foam gun MTM/Karcher
• 10-15 minutes

Step-by-step procedure

1. Initial rinse: wet the entire car with medium pressure water, top to bottom. Removes loose dust.
2. Dilution: in the foam cannon tank, mix 200ml of MA-FRA Foam Gun Prewash with 800ml of warm water.
3. Foam application: spray foam from bottom to top, covering the entire bodywork. Dirt gets encapsulated by bubbles.
4. Contact time: leave to act 5-7 minutes. The foam dissolves dirt, smog and oily residue.
5. Abundant rinse: with clean water at high pressure, always top to bottom.
6. Manual washing: only now move to the mitt with the two-bucket technique.

When to use pre-wash

• Always on cars with paint in good condition you want to maintain
• After a long trip (insects, salt, road dust)
• In winter (salt, mud)
• Before applying wax or ceramic sealant
• On dark cars where scratches are more visible

Common mistakes to avoid

• ❌ Let the foam dry in the sun (causes streaks and loss of effectiveness)
• ❌ Too high concentration (product waste)
• ❌ Use normal shampoo instead of foam (doesn't generate stable foam)
• ❌ Skip the initial rinse (the foam drags abrasive particles)
