Brake Fluid DOT 4 and DOT 5.1 Car Motorcycle

Brake fluid is one of the most critical components for vehicle safety. Its job is to transmit force from the brake pedal to the callipers, and over time it absorbs moisture, lowering the boiling point and reducing braking response. Manufacturers recommend replacing brake fluid every 2 years regardless of mileage.

DOT 4 vs DOT 5.1

DOT 4 is compatible with the vast majority of modern vehicles with standard hydraulic systems, ABS and ESP. DOT 5.1 is an evolved formula with a higher boiling point, indicated for high-performance vehicles, sports use and cars with particularly stressed braking systems. Important: never mix glycol-based fluids (DOT 3, 4, 5.1) with silicone fluids (DOT 5).
